The Panvel Municipal Corporation has begun organising health camps at around 43 locations across its jurisdiction, offering residents access to specialist consultations between September 10 and November 2. The initiative is being conducted under the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Lok Kalyankari Yojana following directions from Mayor Nitin Patil.
A health check-up camp was held at the zilla parishad school in Phanaswadi on Thursday, where residents from the area underwent medical examinations. The camp was inaugurated by Madhu Patil, chairperson of Ward Committee B, according to a report by Mid-Day.
The civic body said camps would be conducted across all four wards of the Panvel Municipal Corporation. Specialist doctors are scheduled to examine residents in gynaecology and obstetrics, ear, nose and throat care, general medicine, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, paediatrics and dermatology.
The programme is intended particularly to improve access to timely health check-ups and specialist medical advice for residents in rural areas within the corporation’s jurisdiction. Primary health assessments will be conducted at the camps, with residents requiring additional care to be guided towards further treatment.
Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, Chief Medical Officer Dr Anand Gosavi, Tuberculosis Officer Dr Usha Rathod, Maternal and Child Health Officer Dr Ganesh Nair, and Medical Officers Dr Suresh Pandit and Dr Bhaktaraaj Bhoite were among the officials associated with the initiative. Other civic staff and medical personnel also attended the Phanaswadi camp.
The camps are being held as part of broader efforts by public authorities to strengthen access to healthcare services. The Maharashtra Public Health Department has recently introduced a new training policy for its workforce, including a proposed 28-day residential Skill Lab programme for healthcare workers.
Under the proposed training programme, public healthcare personnel would receive practical instruction through skill laboratories and district hospitals. The stated objective is to strengthen staff capabilities and improve delivery of public health services.
For Panvel residents, the municipal camps are intended to provide initial assessments closer to their communities and connect patients with further treatment when required. The civic body has appealed to residents to attend the camp organised in their respective areas and undergo timely health check-ups during the programme period.
