IndiGo will launch daily nonstop flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam from November 20, giving passengers a second direct air connection between the Indian city and Tanzania’s largest city, according to a statement reported by the Times of India on Thursday.
Mumbai Dar es Salaam flights operated by IndiGo will run under flight number 6E 1851. The service will depart Mumbai at 2.20 am and arrive in Dar es Salaam at 6.05 am local time. The return flight will leave Dar es Salaam at 7.05 am and reach Mumbai at 3.55 pm.
Air Tanzania currently operates a daily nonstop service on the route, making IndiGo’s launch an additional direct option for travellers. The airline has opened bookings through its official website, mobile application and authorised travel partners.
The cheapest return fares on existing nonstop services are currently around Rs 60,000, while IndiGo’s launch fares are approximately Rs 47,000 for a return journey, the report said. The fares may give travellers an additional option as demand rises during the winter travel period.
The route will connect Mumbai with Dar es Salaam, a major commercial centre and an important gateway to East Africa. Tanzania has longstanding trade, commercial and cultural links with India, with engagement spanning manufacturing, agriculture and healthcare, according to the airline’s statement.
Aloke Singh, chief strategy officer at IndiGo, said the direct service would strengthen connections between India and what he described as fast-growing global markets. He said Tanzania was an important economic partner for India and a gateway to East Africa, with travel demand supported by trade, investment, tourism and cultural ties.
The new service will also expand IndiGo’s direct connectivity to Africa. The airline currently operates direct services from India to Nairobi, Mauritius and Seychelles, according to the statement.
For passengers, the new route will provide a direct connection for business travel, tourism and visits linked to India–Tanzania ties. Tanzania is also a gateway for visitors travelling onward to attractions including the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro and the Zanzibar archipelago.
IndiGo’s Mumbai–Dar es Salaam flights are scheduled to begin on November 20. The airline has not announced any further operational changes to the route in the supplied statement.
