No notice was issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s mother, Gauramma, the Bengaluru South district election officer has clarified.
Yashwant V. Gurukar, who is also the Bengaluru South deputy commissioner, said reports claiming that Gauramma had received a notice were incorrect and resulted from confusion over voters with the same name.
In a statement, Gurukar said three voters named Gauramma are listed at polling station 249 in the Kanakapura Assembly constituency. Gauramma, wife of Kempegowda, is listed at serial number one and is identified as the chief minister’s mother. No notice related to the comprehensive revision of the electoral roll was issued to her, the statement said.
Notices were issued to the other two voters with the same name, listed at serial numbers two and three, according to the election officer. Gurukar said the notices issued to those voters were incorrectly interpreted and subsequently reported by some media organisations as having been served on the chief minister’s mother.
The clarification concerns the identification of voters during the electoral-roll revision process in Kanakapura. The district administration’s statement did not indicate any change to Gauramma’s entry in the voter list or report any separate action involving her.
The election officer’s clarification follows the circulation of reports about an alleged SIR notice to the chief minister’s mother. The administration attributed the reports to the presence of three voters with the same name in the electoral roll at the polling station.
The district election authorities have not announced any further action in the matter. The clarification was issued on Thursday, September 10.
