New Delhi | September 10, 2026 — The Municipal Corporation of Delhi continued a demolition and enforcement drive against dangerous buildings, unauthorised construction and building-norm violations across all 12 zones on Thursday, days after the collapse of a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan killed seven people and injured at least five.
Civic teams carried out action in areas including Laxmi Nagar, Jagatpuri and Pandav Nagar, where structures were found to be in violation of building norms. Visuals from the areas showed MCD teams undertaking demolition and enforcement operations.
Over the past two to three days, the civic body also acted against properties in Vishwas Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Tilak Nagar, Karam Pura, Karol Bagh, Ramesh Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, Chandni Chowk and Nehru Vihar. The drive is expected to continue in these areas, according to the report.
The MCD has also resumed controlled demolition of the building adjoining the structure that collapsed in Satya Niketan. Officials said the adjoining building was being brought down in a calibrated manner. The collapse occurred at a paying guest accommodation, prompting the civic body to intensify inspections and enforcement against buildings considered structurally unsafe or used in violation of approved norms.
As part of a safety assessment exercise launched after the incident, MCD teams surveyed 1,252 paying guest buildings between September 7 and September 9. The inspections covered properties operating as PG accommodations in the capital following the fatal collapse.
Official records cited in the report show that the civic body carried out 1,053 demolition actions between June 1 and September 9. During the same period, it sealed 491 properties, issued 2,316 show-cause notices and served 757 demolition notices as part of its enforcement drive across Delhi.
The actions cover multiple categories of alleged violations, including unauthorised construction, illegal misuse of properties and structures that may pose safety risks. The MCD’s operations are being conducted across all 12 municipal zones, with further enforcement planned in locations identified during the ongoing drive.
The latest measures follow the September 6 collapse in Satya Niketan and the subsequent assessment of PG buildings. The MCD’s next steps are to continue inspections, demolition and sealing action against properties found to violate building regulations or present structural-safety concerns.
