Pimpri-Chinchwad police have registered 16 cases against festival organisers and DJ operators for allegedly violating prescribed noise limits during Dahihandi celebrations, seizing DJ equipment at the locations where the violations were detected.
The action followed inspections of Dahihandi programmes across Pimpri-Chinchwad, where police said sound systems were operating above the permitted limits. Officials subsequently seized the equipment and filed cases against the organisers and DJ owners involved.
According to Loksatta – Pune, cases were registered in the jurisdictions of Nigdi, Bavdhan, Pimpri, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Dapodi, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kalewadi, Bhosari, Dighi and Chakan South. Nigdi recorded four cases, while Bavdhan recorded three. Pimpri, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Dapodi, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kalewadi, Bhosari, Dighi and Chakan South recorded one case each, taking the total to 16.
The police inspections were conducted as part of enforcement against violations of noise-pollution rules during public celebrations. The action was taken after officers found DJ systems operating at volumes above the prescribed limits, the report said.
Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad and Deputy Commissioner Basavaraj Teli had directed officers to take firm action against violations of noise regulations, according to the report. The cases and equipment seizures were carried out under those directions.
Police said excessive sound can cause difficulty for senior citizens, patients, young children and other residents. They appealed to organisers to conduct public celebrations while complying with noise limits and considering public peace and the environment.
The enforcement warning extends to forthcoming festivals, with police stating that organisers and DJ operators who violate noise-pollution rules will face legal action. Authorities have asked those using sound-amplification systems to operate them within the prescribed limits during future events.
