Pune Police have filed 116 cases against mandals accused of violating noise limits during Dahi Handi celebrations and seized six sound systems, including four pressure mids and four plasma sound units, according to information reported by Loksatta.
Police inspected 1,100 Dahi Handi mandals across Pune city and its suburbs after warning organisers that action would be taken if sound limits were breached. Officers used decibel-measuring equipment during the inspections.
The highest number of cases was registered in the central part of the city, identified by police as Zone One. A total of 55 mandals in the zone face cases, according to the report.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had directed mandals to use four bass units and four top units in their sound systems during Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav celebrations. The use of pressure mids and plasma sound equipment was prohibited under the instructions.
Police said most mandals followed the instructions, while some did not use loudspeaker systems. The seized equipment included four pressure mids, four plasma sound units and six sound-amplification systems.
The action follows enforcement measures aimed at controlling high-volume sound systems during public festivals. Police said the cases were filed against mandals that exceeded prescribed noise limits, while the seized equipment was linked to the use of systems prohibited under the festival instructions.
