The Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board, in association with the Industries Department, will host an eco-friendly Ganesh idol painting festival in Mumbai on Tuesday, September 8, as part of preparations for Ganeshotsav 2026.
The Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Painting Festival 2026 will be held at Trimurti Courtyard at Mantralaya from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to an official statement cited by the board. The event will give citizens an opportunity to paint Ganesh idols made from environmentally friendly materials.
The idols have been produced by the Handmade Paper Institute in Pune, which operates under the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board. The institute uses paper pulp made from white cloth waste to manufacture the idols. It also produces eco-friendly lanterns and other handmade paper products.
The organisers said the festival is intended to raise awareness about environmentally responsible ways of celebrating Ganeshotsav. The initiative will promote the use of eco-friendly idols and encourage citizens to adopt sustainable practices during the festival.
An exhibition and sale of Khadi garments and Madhuban honey will also be held at the venue. The board said the programme is aimed not only at promoting sustainable products but also at creating wider markets for goods made by rural and micro entrepreneurs.
The Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board provides guidance, encouragement and marketing support to rural and micro entrepreneurs. Board chairman Ravindra Sathe and chief executive officer Laxman Raut appealed to citizens to participate in the event and support the message of an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav.
