TRL Krosaki Refractories and Raghav Productivity Enhancers Limited have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture in Odisha for manufacturing and marketing silica ramming mass, a refractory material used mainly in induction furnaces for melting metals.
The companies signed the Joint Venture Agreement in Kolkata on Saturday. The proposed partnership will combine TRL Krosaki’s quartzite mineral resources with Raghav Productivity Enhancers’ manufacturing expertise, proprietary technology, research and development capabilities, and domestic and international customer network.
Silica ramming mass is used as a refractory lining material in industrial furnaces. The proposed venture is intended to move TRL Krosaki beyond the extraction and supply of mineral resources towards higher-value manufacturing, while giving Raghav Productivity Enhancers access to an additional mineral resource base.
The joint venture will be located in Odisha, with the companies saying it will support greater value addition to the state’s mineral resources and strengthen India’s position in the global silica ramming mass industry. The announcement did not disclose the proposed investment, production capacity, ownership structure or commissioning timeline.
“This joint venture marks an important strategic milestone for TRL Krosaki. The partnership aligns with our objective of maximising resource utilisation while creating new avenues for growth and shareholder value,” Prasant Kumar Naik, managing director of TRL Krosaki Refractories, said in a statement.
Naik said the project would also contribute to industrial development in Jharsuguda and adjoining areas by generating employment and supporting local enterprises. TRL Krosaki’s mother plant is located at Belpahar in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.
Raghav Productivity Enhancers Chairman Sanjay Kabra said the partnership would combine TRL Krosaki’s mineral resources with his company’s manufacturing expertise and proprietary technology. He added that the venture would help serve customers in India and international markets and create a platform for future expansion.
TRL Krosaki Refractories, formerly known as Tata Refractories, is among India’s largest producers and exporters of refractory products. The company reported a turnover of Rs 2,881 crore in financial year 2025-26. It has operated in refractory manufacturing since its inception in 1958.
The companies have not announced a schedule for finalising the joint venture’s operational plans. Further details on the plant, production scale, investment and ownership are expected as the partnership progresses.
