VinFast electric two-wheelers are moving closer to an India launch, with the Vietnamese automaker inviting applications for exclusive dealerships across the country as it prepares to assemble electric scooters locally.
The company announced the dealership opportunity through a recent social-media post, describing the move as the beginning of a wider electric-mobility ecosystem in India. VinFast said it was seeking partners to help expand its presence nationwide and would accept applications from prospective dealers until September 15.
“Something massive is building at VinFast E-Motorcycle India, and we are about to open the doors to a historic journey,” the company said in the advertisement. The post added that the company’s blueprint was ready and that a major announcement would follow soon.
The dealership initiative comes as VinFast prepares to develop electric two-wheelers through the Completely Knocked Down, or CKD, route. Under the planned model, components would be imported from the company’s overseas facilities and assembled at its existing car manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
VinFast’s registrations rose 43.5 per cent month on month to 2,196 units in August from 1,530 in July, according to the report. The company has not yet disclosed the electric two-wheeler variants it plans to introduce in India.
S Sathyanarayanan, a two-wheeler dealer in Villupuram who plans to apply for a VinFast dealership, said electric two-wheelers remained at an early stage of development in India and offered room for expansion. He estimated that electric two-wheelers account for about 9 per cent of the overall two-wheeler market, with internal-combustion-engine vehicles continuing to account for the majority.
Bharat Kumar Chordia, treasurer of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, said VinFast’s experience in Vietnam’s electric two-wheeler segment could support its India plans. He also said a nationwide dealership network would be important because demand patterns and festival calendars vary across Indian states, creating multiple local buying occasions.
The electric two-wheeler plans are being developed alongside VinFast’s existing vehicle operations in Tamil Nadu. The company recently reiterated that it would continue CKD assembly of models currently being sold in India after a Reuters report said production plans for some car variants had been suspended. VinFast said its production plans for those models had not changed or been suspended as suggested by sources cited in the report.
In December 2025, VinFast and the Tamil Nadu Government signed a memorandum of understanding covering approximately 200 hectares at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi. As the second phase of its previously announced $2 billion commitment, the company said it would invest $500 million in Thoothukudi to develop dedicated workshops and production lines for electric buses and e-scooters, including manufacturing, assembly and testing facilities.
The next stated milestone for the electric two-wheeler business is the September 15 deadline for dealership applications. VinFast has not yet announced the launch date, product line-up or pricing for its electric scooters in India.
