A Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) regional office will be opened in Chakan’s industrial area after small entrepreneurs warned that poor infrastructure and severe traffic congestion were forcing them to consider relocating, according to a report by Loksatta-Pune published on September 6, 2026.
The office is intended to allow industrial units to resolve administrative and infrastructure-related issues locally instead of travelling to MIDC’s existing regional office in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The new office is expected to be inaugurated this month by Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant.
Chakan’s industrial area extends across approximately 7,250 acres and has been developed in five phases. Its administration currently falls under MIDC’s regional office in Pimpri-Chinchwad, around 20 kilometres away. Entrepreneurs from Chakan are required to travel there for approvals, complaints and other administrative matters. According to the report, traffic congestion means that a visit to the office can consume an entire working day in travel.
MIDC had earlier planned to establish an office of a deputy engineer at Bhamboli in Phase II of the Chakan industrial area. The building has already been completed. MIDC has now decided to use the facility for a regional office instead, bringing a wider range of administrative and engineering functions closer to the industrial estate.
The decision followed a warning from 20 small-scale entrepreneurs that they could relocate because of deteriorating infrastructure and congestion in the industrial area. The local office is expected to reduce the need for repeated visits to Pimpri-Chinchwad and provide a direct administrative interface for companies operating in Chakan.
The office will include an executive engineer, deputy engineer, junior engineers and assistant engineers, along with approximately 30 employees. Nilesh Modhve, MIDC superintendent engineer, said the regional office would be inaugurated soon, according to the report.
The functions planned for the office include approvals for factory construction plans, permissions related to setting up factories, construction of new roads, road maintenance and repairs, maintenance of sewage lines, new water-supply connections, repairs to water-supply pipelines, water-bill assessment, removal of encroachments and action on industrial complaints.
MIDC has also taken up new infrastructure works in Chakan. The local office is expected to assist with the handling of these works and with the resolution of entrepreneurs’ complaints, although the report does not specify the individual projects, budgets or completion schedules.
The move comes alongside an effort to provide more regulatory services within industrial areas. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has already opened a sub-regional office in Chakan, following the establishment of a similar office in Baramati. Industrial units previously had to travel to Pune for several pollution-control-related services. The stated objective of these local offices is to improve access to government services for industries in the districts.
The Chakan MIDC office’s inauguration and the start of its full operations will determine how quickly entrepreneurs can access engineering, utility and administrative services within the industrial area.
