The Bengaluru Central City Corporation has ordered safety, traffic-management and lake-protection measures at Halasuru Lake ahead of Ganesh idol immersions, with officials directed to coordinate with the police and complete pending public-access works at the site.
Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G has instructed officials to install adequate barricades to make the immersion process safer and reduce inconvenience to visitors. The police department will coordinate with civic officials to maintain law and order, prevent overcrowding, regulate vehicular movement and minimise traffic congestion around the lake.
The directions cover both the immediate management of the festival activity and longer-term work intended to improve conditions at Halasuru Lake. Civic officials have been asked to develop a wetland at the lake to improve water quality and provide a suitable environment for aquatic life.
The corporation has also directed officials to clear debris and clean the stormwater drain leading to the lake. Mesh screens are to be installed at rainwater entry points to prevent garbage, plastic and other waste from entering the water body through the drainage network.
The instructions include completing ongoing development works at the lake within the stipulated timeframe. These works include a walkers’ pathway, the installation of grills and other related facilities, which officials have been asked to make available to the public after completion.
The arrangements place Halasuru Lake at the intersection of festival management, traffic regulation and stormwater protection. Barricades and police coordination are intended to manage movement during the immersion process, while the proposed wetland, drain cleaning and mesh screens address the entry of waste and the condition of the lake’s water system.
The civic body’s directions also require officials to ensure that the ongoing works do not remain incomplete as public-use facilities are prepared. The walkers’ pathway and grills form part of the site improvements being carried out alongside the preparations for the immersion activity.
Officials have been instructed to coordinate across civic and police departments so that crowd control, vehicle movement, public access and lake-related works are handled together. The corporation has not provided, in the reported announcement, a specific completion date for each measure or details of the number of personnel and barricades to be deployed.
The next steps are the installation of safety infrastructure, coordination with the police, cleaning of the stormwater drain, placement of mesh screens and completion of the pending lake-development works before the facilities are opened to the public.
