Thane Metro Line 4 completed a trial run between Gaimukh and Kapurbawdi on Friday, September 4, as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) prepares to begin services at selected stations in the city by December.
The trial was conducted on the Thane sections of Metro Line 4 and Line 4A, which are being developed through the MMRDA. A six-coach metro train travelled from Gaimukh towards Kapurbawdi before returning in the direction of Kasarvadavli.
During the trial, officials inspected the movement of the train, the viaduct and track infrastructure, and various technical aspects of the corridor. The operation followed an engine trial conducted on the route on Thursday.
The Gaimukh–Kapurbawdi section forms part of the wider Metro 4 and Metro 4A projects being implemented in Thane. The corridor is expected to provide an additional public transport option in a city where road congestion is a persistent concern.
According to the report, the successful trial is expected to accelerate the remaining technical procedures and safety checks. MMRDA has planned to start metro services between some stations on Metro 4 and Metro 4A by December, although the entire project will take additional time to become operational.
The next stage will involve further technical processes and safety-related examinations before passenger services can begin. The authority’s December plan applies to selected stations, rather than the full completion of the entire project.
