Hyderabad Cyberabad Plans Greener Safer Public Spaces
HYDERABAD: Cyberabad is planning a wider set of civic improvements covering child safety, waste management, roads, sanitation, greenery and recreation. The proposals approved by the municipal standing committee indicate an effort to address the needs of a rapidly expanding urban region while adding more sustainable public infrastructure.
A key proposal is to develop a Child-Friendly and Safe Cyberabad Municipal Corporation initiative in collaboration with UNICEF. The programme is expected to focus on safer and more inclusive urban spaces for children, bringing their needs into the planning of public areas. Environmental management is another major part of the plans. A 50-tonne-per-day bio-methanisation plant has been proposed at Ameenpur under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. The civic body has also cleared proposals for scientific management of chicken waste and a green waste-to-bio-briquette facility. These projects could reduce the amount of organic waste reaching landfills by converting waste into energy or usable materials. Their effectiveness, however, will depend on proper collection systems, segregation and consistent operations.
Several road projects have also received approval. A proposed 30-metre-wide road will connect Bachupally with Mallanna Temple through Nizampet Road. Another project involves widening the road between Mahadevapuram X Road and Gajularamaram Junction, along with a central median and lighting. The civic body also plans to strengthen routine sanitation by procuring mechanised road sweepers and truck-mounted skip loaders. Better equipment could improve cleaning efficiency as the volume of waste and traffic increases across the region. Green infrastructure is included in the proposals as well. CSR-supported development and maintenance of central greenery has been proposed along the Nallagandla X Road to Tellapur Road stretch. Expanding and maintaining such spaces can provide environmental benefits while improving the quality of public corridors.
The plans extend beyond roads and waste management. The Animal Care Centre at Mahadevapuram is set for expansion, increasing facilities for animal welfare services. A major recreational proposal is an Olympic-standard BMX Supercross track near Medchal Check Post. The planned facility is intended to include 5-metre and 8-metre dual hills and could add a specialised sports destination to the region. The mix of projects shows that urban development is being considered across several areas rather than focusing only on road capacity. Child-friendly spaces, greenery, waste processing and recreational facilities can influence how residents experience a growing city. However, implementation will be central to the success of these proposals. New roads need effective drainage and pedestrian facilities, while waste-processing plants require reliable collection and segregation systems. Green spaces also need long-term maintenance rather than one-time development. For a region experiencing rapid urbanisation, coordinated planning can help prevent new infrastructure from creating future service gaps. The latest proposals point towards a broader approach in which mobility, environmental management, public safety and community facilities are planned alongside physical expansion.
