Pune Car Care Industry Moves Into Premium Services
Pune: A new automotive retail and service format has opened on Sus Road in Baner, bringing paint protection, solar-control films, detailing and vehicle customisation under one roof. The Blaupunkt One Studio is the first outlet of its kind for the German automotive electronics brand in India, marking an expansion from its established car-audio business into the wider vehicle-care market.
The outlet has been developed through a partnership between Pune-based Car Cupid Studio and Blaupunkt. Its service mix includes paint protection films (PPF), ultraviolet-protection films, exterior modifications, interior upgrades and detailing, alongside the audio and infotainment products associated with the brand. The move comes as vehicle ownership in Indian cities increasingly extends beyond basic maintenance. Owners of newer and higher-value cars are spending more on protecting paintwork, improving cabin comfort and personalising vehicles. This is creating a broader aftermarket economy around cars, spanning specialised workshops, accessories, detailing and protection products. Among the products available at the Pune outlet are PPF systems marketed with features such as water-repellent surfaces and heat-assisted self-healing. Such films are designed to protect painted panels from minor surface damage. The range also includes coloured films, allowing owners to alter the exterior appearance without a permanent repaint.
Cabin-related services take the customisation trend further. Options include modified seating, door-panel treatments, steering-wheel designs and ambient lighting. Exterior additions include protection equipment and accessories aimed at SUVs and off-road-oriented vehicles. For consumers, however, the growth of vehicle customisation also raises questions around installation quality, material durability and roadworthiness. Modifications that affect lighting, visibility, vehicle dimensions or safety systems need to remain compatible with applicable regulations. The expansion of this market therefore makes professional standards and transparent product information increasingly important. There is also an environmental dimension. Vehicle protection can potentially extend the usable life of exterior components and reduce the frequency of cosmetic repairs or repainting. But films, plastics, adhesives and replacement components also create material waste when removed or replaced. The sustainability value of the sector will depend on how workshops manage discarded materials and how long products remain in service.
The company-backed model is expected to expand through additional outlets, initially across Maharashtra and eventually into other parts of India. For Pune, the development reflects a wider shift in the urban automotive economy: cars are becoming not only modes of transport but also long-term consumer assets requiring specialised maintenance. As this market expands, the next measure of its maturity will be less about the number of outlets and more about service transparency, responsible material use, safety compliance and whether urban consumers can access quality vehicle-care services without encouraging unnecessary consumption.
