The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a comprehensive online platform dedicated to the registration of complaints, vaccinations, and sterilizations of stray and pet dogs. This innovative initiative promises to streamline various aspects of pet care, making it more accessible and efficient for Mumbai’s residents.
The project, championed by BMC Commissioner Dr. Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Ashwini Joshi, and Deputy Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar, is a testament to the city’s commitment to improving animal welfare. By leveraging digital technology, the BMC aims to provide seamless and user-friendly services that cater to the needs of pet owners and animal welfare enthusiasts alike. An official from the Veterinary Health Department highlighted the platform’s comprehensive features, stating, “The online facility offers detailed information on a wide range of animal welfare measures implemented by the BMC. It also serves as a valuable resource for accessing information about government departments and organisations involved in animal welfare.”
Through the MyBMC mobile application or the BMC website, citizens can effortlessly register their stray or pet dogs for vaccinations and sterilizations. The process is straightforward: users select either ‘Complaint’ or ‘Request’ on the platform and complete the necessary fields. Upon submission, a unique number is generated for each request, enabling users to monitor the status of their complaints or requests in real-time. In addition to these services, the BMC has also introduced an online registration facility for the cremation of small pets at the Malad crematorium. Pet owners can register animals weighing less than 50 kg and schedule a cremation within two days. Available time slots are at 12 noon and 4 pm daily, with confirmation details sent to the registered mobile number. This service aims to provide a dignified and respectful end-of-life solution for pets.
The official further elaborated, “These new online services are part of the BMC’s broader efforts to streamline animal welfare activities and provide efficient support to residents. By making these services more accessible, we hope to foster a more humane approach to managing stray and pet animals in Mumbai.” This digital transformation reflects the BMC’s proactive stance in addressing animal welfare concerns and underscores its dedication to utilising technology for public benefit. As Mumbai continues to grow and evolve, initiatives like this play a crucial role in ensuring that the city’s approach to animal welfare is both modern and compassionate.
