Hyderabad Power Service Reform Targets Faster Approvals
Hyderabad: Telangana has introduced a new digital application system that allows builders, developers and owners of apartment complexes to apply for multiple electricity connections through a single online process, marking another step towards improving ease of doing business and streamlining urban utility services.
The new Bulk Power Connection System introduced by the Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) enables applicants to submit one consolidated application instead of filing separate requests for each electricity connection within the same residential or commercial development. The initiative is expected to reduce processing time, minimise paperwork and improve transparency in utility approvals. The digital service is designed for apartment projects, multi-storeyed residential buildings and commercial complexes where multiple low-tension electricity connections are required. Authorities expect the simplified process to accelerate connection approvals while reducing administrative burdens for both applicants and the utility. Under the revised framework, charges will be calculated based on the total contracted electricity load for the project. Developments requiring up to 20 kW will continue to pay both development and service line charges, while projects exceeding 20 kW will receive a waiver on development charges and pay only the applicable service line charges. The utility will also provide transformer installation where required without additional cost, subject to prescribed network conditions.
