Hyderabad: Several private and corporate schools in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana declared a holiday on Tuesday following a statewide bandh call by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over various education-related concerns.
School managements announced the closure as a precautionary measure to avoid inconvenience to students, parents and staff during the bandh. The protest has been organised to highlight issues including rising private school fees, costly uniform policies, inadequate infrastructure in government schools and concerns over the closure or merger of certain government educational institutions. ABVP and other education groups have expressed concern over increasing education expenses, arguing that high tuition fees and additional charges are placing a growing financial burden on families. Protest organisers have also called for improvements in government school facilities, citing shortages of classrooms, sanitation infrastructure and teaching resources in several institutions. Another major issue raised by the student organisation is the proposed closure or merger of some government schools. According to protest leaders, such measures could negatively impact access to education, particularly for students from rural and economically disadvantaged communities.
While the bandh is expected to affect schools significantly, colleges, government offices and most commercial establishments are likely to function normally unless separate local directives are issued. Public transport services, including bus operations, are also expected to continue without major disruptions. Authorities have not announced any large-scale restrictions on regular services.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police have deployed security personnel and intensified monitoring across the city to maintain law and order during the bandh. Parents have been advised to stay in touch with school authorities for updates regarding classes, examinations and transportation arrangements. The bandh has once again brought attention to broader debates surrounding education affordability, school infrastructure and access to quality education across Telangana.
