Visakhapatnam-Delhi Flights Gain Capacity as Akasa Air Returns

Visakhapatnam-Delhi flights have gained another operator, with Akasa Air launching services on the route and becoming the third airline to connect the Andhra Pradesh city with New Delhi. The new service adds capacity and gives passengers more choice in flight timings from Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced the launch in a post on X on Sunday. Welcoming Akasa Air to Andhra Pradesh, he said the airline was returning to the Vizag region after a three-year gap.

“More options for Vizag-Delhi flyers! Starting today, we have an added flight connecting Visakhapatnam to the National capital, with Akasa Air launching operations as the 3rd airline on the sector,” Naidu said.

The minister said the additional service would provide greater flexibility in flight timings and more options for passengers travelling to and from the airport. The launch makes Akasa Air the third airline operating on the Visakhapatnam-New Delhi sector, although the announcement did not specify the schedules, daily frequency or aircraft deployed for the new operation.

The service comes as Visakhapatnam’s aviation infrastructure expands following the start of commercial operations at the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram. The airport began handling domestic and international services on August 17, 2026, connecting the region with destinations across India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The airport has been developed and is operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Ltd. Its initial annual passenger-handling capacity is six million, with plans for phased expansion to more than 40 million passengers annually. The addition of another airline on a key domestic sector is the latest operational development following the airport’s opening.

For passengers, the immediate change is greater airline choice on travel between Visakhapatnam and the national capital. Multiple operators on the same sector can also offer different departure timings and fare options, although the source announcement did not provide comparative fare or schedule details.

The launch also links airline expansion with the airport’s planned growth. As the facility develops its domestic and international network, the number of airlines and routes operating from Bhogapuram will determine how effectively its planned capacity is used. Akasa Air’s return adds another carrier to that early expansion phase.

The Civil Aviation Minister did not announce further route additions or provide a timeline for additional services. Details of Akasa Air’s flight schedule and the airport’s next operational milestones were not included in the announcement.
