Vasai | September 3, 2026 — Potholes remain on several roads connecting Dahi Handi venues across Vasai-Virar, even as the festival is expected to draw Govinda teams from Mumbai, Thane and nearby cities within the next two days. The damaged routes are creating safety and traffic concerns for participants and residents travelling through the city.
Roads in and around Achole in Nalasopara, links between Nalasopara East and West, Manikpur and Sativali in Vasai, Tungarphata, Naigaon-Juchandra, and roads connecting Virar railway station and the highway continue to have large potholes, according to a report by Loksatta – Vasai-Virar.
The report said heavy rain and poor-quality road repairs have damaged main and internal roads, particularly routes in the eastern parts of the city and roads near highways and industrial areas. Residents have reported prolonged traffic congestion and difficulties while travelling on the damaged stretches. The report also cited complaints of neck, back and spinal discomfort associated with journeys on uneven roads.
Citizens had sought repairs ahead of the festival. During a meeting held last month to discuss Dahi Handi arrangements, the mayor reportedly assured participants that potholes would be filled before the event.
The Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation’s construction department said it had prepared a priority list of 26 roads connecting Dahi Handi venues. According to officials, pothole-filling work on 25 of those roads was nearly complete. Work in several municipal wards was reported to be 70% to 80% complete.
Officials also said progress was slower in Wards A, C and F because of the unavailability of asphalt. The municipal administration’s stated priority is to complete repairs on the identified festival routes before Dahi Handi events begin.
