Vasai debris dumping from a Vile Parle construction site was stopped after traffic police caught a Hyva truck unloading building waste along the Vasai-Chinchoti stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, leading to a case against three people at Naigaon police station.
The vehicle, bearing registration number MH 58 B 8931, was reportedly intercepted at about 3 pm on Friday while it was unloading construction debris between Bapane and Chinchoti. Traffic police alerted Naigaon police, who then took action at the site.
The case names driver Virendrakumar Sahani, 30, truck owner Dnyaneshwar Amoge and a person identified as Saddam, who was allegedly associated with the location from where the debris had been loaded. The three were booked for allegedly disfiguring a public road and creating an obstruction to traffic on the highway.
The debris was reportedly generated from construction work in Mumbai’s Vile Parle area. The report said that redevelopment, demolition of old buildings and other construction activity in Mumbai and surrounding areas are producing large quantities of construction waste. Instead of being taken for authorised disposal, some of this material is being transported outside the city and left along roads and open spaces in the Vasai-Virar region.
According to the report, vehicles carrying debris from Mumbai and other areas have been seen using concealed routes to unload material along the highway and adjoining locations. These include stretches from the Versova bridge towards Sassoonvghar, Maljipada, Chinchoti, Naigaon, Sativali Phata, Pelhar and Virar.
The dumping has been reported along both the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway and internal roads in Vasai-Virar. The reported locations include highway edges and open land, placing the issue within the responsibilities of agencies dealing with road management, traffic movement, construction activity and municipal enforcement.
The latest action follows the interception of one vehicle, but the report indicates that debris movement into Vasai-Virar has been occurring over several years. It also links the increase in construction waste to the pace of redevelopment and infrastructure activity in Mumbai and nearby urban areas.
The police case records the immediate enforcement action in the Vile Parle debris-dumping incident. The report does not provide details of any subsequent municipal order, the quantity of debris removed, or whether the material was later transported to an authorised processing or disposal facility.
