Unauthorized Drones Banned in Tirupati Areas

The Tirupati district police have imposed a comprehensive ban on the unauthorised use of drone cameras across the region.

This measure comes in response to the area’s designation as a sensitive zone, given its status as a prominent pilgrimage destination and the presence of critical infrastructure. Tirupati, renowned for the sacred Tirumala hills and the revered Sri Venkateswara Temple, attracts a vast number of devotees and VIPs annually. The influx of visitors, coupled with the proximity of vital installations such as the Tirupati International Airport and the Sriharikota Space Centre (SHAR), has necessitated heightened security protocols.

The district’s Superintendent of Police has stated that the ban is effective immediately, citing concerns over unauthorised drone operations that could compromise public safety and violate airspace regulations. The use of drones without proper authorisation has been identified as a potential threat to both the sanctity of religious sites and the security of strategic locations. Under the new directive, individuals seeking to operate drones must obtain a licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and secure prior permission from local law enforcement authorities. Furthermore, specific areas, including the Tirumala hills and the vicinity of the Tirupati airport, have been designated as strict no-fly zones.

The police have emphasised that any violation of these regulations will result in the immediate seizure of the drone equipment and legal action in accordance with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and DGCA guidelines. Residents and visitors are urged to report any instances of unauthorised drone activity by contacting emergency services. This enforcement aligns with broader efforts to maintain the security and sanctity of Tirupati’s religious and strategic sites. By regulating aerial activities, authorities aim to prevent potential disruptions and ensure a safe environment for all.

The implementation of this drone ban reflects a commitment to upholding public safety and preserving the integrity of Tirupati’s sacred and critical spaces. As the city continues to welcome pilgrims and dignitaries, these measures serve as a proactive approach to mitigating risks associated with unauthorised aerial surveillance.
