Ujjain Road-Widening Damage Triggers Fake QR Donation Warning

The Shahi Masjid committee in Ujjain has warned people against sending money through an unauthorised QR code being circulated on social media after a minaret fell onto the mosque’s roof during road-widening work.

The committee said the QR code was being shared in the mosque’s name without its permission and that it had not issued any QR code or made an appeal for donations through social media. Shahi Masjid president Mannan Rahmani and Imam Ibrahim alerted people after learning about the circulation.

The damage occurred after a portion of the mosque was affected by a road-widening project. According to the report, the minaret was being lowered with the help of a crane when the crane’s belt snapped. The minaret then fell uncontrollably onto the mosque’s roof, damaging part of the structure.

In a video message, committee office-bearers asked anyone wishing to help with repairs or damage-related expenses to contact the Shahi Masjid committee directly. They advised people not to transfer money without verifying the QR code or the identity of anyone seeking contributions in the mosque’s name.

The warning places the digital donation appeal in the context of an ongoing urban road project that has affected part of the mosque premises. The committee has not authorised a public online collection at this stage, according to the report.

Kharakuan police station in-charge Laxman Singh Devda said no member of the community had approached the police about the matter and that no written complaint had been received. He said legal action would be taken if a complaint was filed. The committee’s warning remains the immediate public advisory while the damaged portion and the reported QR code circulation await any formal police action.
