Two people, including a 64-year-old woman, were killed in separate road accidents in Tiruvallur and Chengalpet districts on Saturday, according to police information reported by the Times of India. In Tiruvallur district, Muniyammal, 64, from Melapudi Colony near Pallipattu, was crossing Pallipattu Road near Vanivilasapuram Colony on Saturday morning when a motorcycle travelling from Podaturpet towards Pallipattu hit her. She was on her way to work when the crash occurred.
Muniyammal was first taken to Podaturpet Government Hospital for treatment. She was later shifted to Tiruttani District Government Hospital, where she died without responding to treatment. The Podaturpet police registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
The second fatal crash took place on Vandalur-Walajabad Road in Chengalpet district. Sathishkumar, 39, a resident of Railway Station Road in Vandalur, was riding his motorcycle along Bhajanai Koil Street early on Saturday when a truck hit him.
Sathishkumar died at the scene of the crash. Tambaram traffic investigation police sent his body to Tambaram Government Hospital for postmortem examination, as required in the investigation of the death.
Police identified the truck driver as Minal, 34, from Assam, and arrested him in connection with the crash. The report did not provide details of the sections of law invoked, the condition of the truck, or whether investigators had determined the precise circumstances leading to the collision.
