Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed irrigation officials to continue discussions with the Maharashtra government on the proposed Tummidihatti barrage, including the exchange of agreements, project records and details of areas that could be submerged.
Reddy issued the instructions during a review meeting with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and officials at his Jubilee Hills residence. The meeting examined recent discussions with Maharashtra and other issues connected with the proposed barrage.
The Chief Minister asked officials to maintain a good working relationship with their Maharashtra counterparts and remain prepared with comprehensive information on the potential submergence. The state government has also been instructed to provide all information sought by Maharashtra in a timely manner.
According to the report, Telangana is prepared to provide adequate compensation for land in Maharashtra that may be affected by submergence. Reddy also said the state was ready to deposit funds into a joint account operated by the two state governments.
The proposed arrangement places inter-state coordination at the centre of the project’s next stage. Before construction-related decisions can advance, the two governments will need to exchange existing agreements and other relevant documents, assess the areas that could be affected and address compensation-related issues.
Reddy said Telangana would not object if Maharashtra conducted its own survey of the land that could be submerged. The assurance allows Maharashtra to independently assess the potential impact within its territory while discussions on the barrage continue.
The latest instructions do not announce a construction start date or provide a revised project schedule. They instead focus on documentation, surveys, inter-state communication and financial preparedness for possible land impacts. The next steps identified in the review are the submission of requested information by Telangana officials, continued dialogue between the two state governments and further examination of the potential submergence areas.
