Trichy Power Cuts Planned For Substation Maintenance Work
Residents across several parts of Trichy will face scheduled electricity interruptions this week as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) carries out maintenance activities at key substations. The planned outages, covering major residential, commercial and institutional zones, highlight the importance of regular power infrastructure upgrades in supporting reliable urban services and reducing risks of long-term network failures.
The first shutdown is scheduled on Tuesday in areas supplied by the Main Guard Gate and Kambarasampettai substations. Electricity supply will remain unavailable between 9.45am and 4pm across neighbourhoods including Chathiram bus stand surroundings, Karur Bypass Road, Singarathope, Woraiyur, Salai Road, Fort Station Road, Anna Statue area, Housing Unit, Linga Nagar and several nearby localities. The maintenance work will also affect peripheral areas connected to the Kambarasampettai network, including Allur, Jeeyapuram, Mutharasanallur and Thiruchendurai. Water infrastructure-linked facilities, including the Ponmalai drinking water headworks, are among the locations expected to experience disruption during the scheduled period.
A second round of outages has been announced for Wednesday due to maintenance at the Thiruvanaikoil substation. Several neighbourhoods on the island region and adjoining corridors, including Sannidhi Street, Ulveedhi, Srinivasa Nagar, Chennai Trunk Road, Kallanai Road, Jambukeswarar Nagar and areas around No 1 Tollgate, will experience power interruptions during the same daytime window. Urban infrastructure experts note that planned shutdowns are a necessary part of maintaining ageing electricity networks, particularly as cities expand and energy demand rises. However, they also emphasise the need for improved communication systems that help households, businesses and essential services prepare for temporary disruptions. For small businesses, retail establishments and service providers, even short power interruptions can affect daily operations, digital payments and customer services.
