Thiruvananthapuram Water Supply Disruption to Hit Eight Wards

Thiruvananthapuram water supply disruption will affect eight city corporation wards from 10pm on Friday until 4pm on Sunday as the Kerala Water Authority carries out pipeline interconnection work linked to the construction of the Sreekaryam flyover.

The shutdown will completely affect drinking water supply in Attipra, Kazhakkoottam, Pallithura, Pound Kadavu, Karyavattom, Alathara, Kuzhivila and Pangappara, according to the Kerala Water Authority. Supply in the affected areas is expected to remain partially disrupted until Wednesday.

The work is part of the final stage of connecting newly laid pipelines to the existing water distribution network. The interconnection is being carried out in connection with pipeline works required for the Sreekaryam flyover project.

The disruption highlights the dependence of major urban construction projects on coordinated utility relocation and network integration. In this case, newly laid water pipelines must be connected to the existing system before the related infrastructure works can proceed. The Kerala Water Authority has not provided any further details in the supplied announcement about the volume of water affected or the specific points at which the interconnection work will take place.

Residents in the eight wards have been advised to make arrangements in advance and store sufficient water before the shutdown begins. The complete interruption is scheduled to continue from Friday night through Sunday afternoon, while partial effects may continue for several days after the main work is completed.

The affected areas include residential neighbourhoods as well as locations around Kazhakkoottam and Karyavattom, where urban development and transport infrastructure works have increased the need for coordinated utility planning. The announced schedule gives households and establishments a defined period in which to prepare for the interruption.

The Kerala Water Authority said supply would be completely disrupted until 4pm on Sunday and partially affected until Wednesday. Consumers in Attipra, Kazhakkoottam, Pallithura, Pound Kadavu, Karyavattom, Alathara, Kuzhivila and Pangappara have been urged to store water and make necessary arrangements before the work begins.
