Thane water cut restrictions will affect residents in Kalwa, Diva, parts of Mumbra and smaller areas of Wagle and Manpada wards from midnight on October 22 until noon on October 24, the Thane Municipal Corporation has announced. The civic body has also warned that supplies may remain at low pressure for one to two days after the shutdown ends.
The disruption will affect areas supplied by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation through its Jambhul water treatment plant. The shutdown is linked to a 10 per cent water cut being implemented under a government order, according to the civic announcement.
Diva will face the shutdown across all areas. In Mumbra, all areas will be affected except certain parts of wards 26 and 31. The disruption will cover all areas under the Kalwa ward committee. In the Wagle ward, Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2 and Nehru Nagar are listed among the affected locations. In the Manpada ward, Kolshet Khalcha Gaon will face the supply interruption.
The shutdown is scheduled to begin at 12 midnight on Thursday, October 22, and continue until 12 noon on Saturday, October 24. The TMC has advised residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water in advance and use it carefully during the disruption.
The civic body has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary consumption during both the shutdown and the period required for the system to recover. It cautioned that water may not return immediately to normal pressure after the scheduled restoration, with reduced-pressure supply expected for one to two days.
The TMC cited lower rainfall after the monsoon, the effects of El Nino and the early withdrawal of the monsoon in October 2026 as factors behind the conservation measures. The announcement comes as authorities across Maharashtra respond to concerns about water availability and drought conditions in parts of the state.
The wider water situation has also influenced planning by civic bodies. As of October 19, Mumbai’s seven lakes were reported to hold 90.48 per cent of their combined capacity, around six percentage points below the level recorded at the same time last year and nearly seven percentage points below the corresponding level in 2024.
The state government has advised civic bodies to adopt water-saving measures and plan for water availability until August 31, 2027. For residents in the affected Thane areas, the immediate civic guidance is to store water before the shutdown begins and to account for low-pressure supply after services resume.
