TGGENCO is examining an additional road route through Chendipada in Odisha’s Angul district to increase coal supplies from the Naini Coal Mine to its Yadadri Thermal Power Station in Telangana, following a rise in coal requirements at its thermal power stations.
The proposed route was discussed on Tuesday when TGGENCO chairman and managing director Dr S. Harish and other officials met Abdaal M Akthar, the Collector and District Magistrate of Angul. The meeting focused on increasing coal movement from Naini by road and relaxing the existing timings for transporting the fuel.
TGGENCO has been transporting coal from the Naini Coal Mine to Yadadri Thermal Power Station since August 2026. The Telangana power-generation company now wants to augment supplies from the Odisha mine in response to what it described as increased coal requirements at its thermal stations due to the El Niño effect.
According to the report, the Angul district administration advised TGGENCO to use an additional transport route through Chendipada alongside the existing route. The proposed arrangement is intended to support a higher offtake of coal from Naini and provide the generator with another road corridor for moving supplies.
The development places local road movement and district-level coordination at the centre of an inter-state fuel supply chain. Coal produced in Angul must be transported to a thermal power station in Telangana, requiring coordination between TGGENCO and the Odisha district administration over movement timings and routes. Any change in the operating window for coal transport would therefore depend on local administrative arrangements in the mining and transit area.
The report does not specify the current daily or monthly volume of coal being transported from Naini, the additional quantity TGGENCO is seeking, or the exact timings proposed for expanded road movement. It also does not state whether the alternate route has been approved for regular use or whether the company has begun trial movements through Chendipada.
TGGENCO is currently examining the feasibility of moving coal by road through the alternate route suggested by the Angul Collector. The next operational step will be the company’s assessment of that route and the arrangements required to increase coal offtake from the Naini mine.
