Telangana Emerges as a Global Tech Hub in 2024

Telangana solidified its reputation as a preferred destination for global technology investments in 2024, attracting major multinational corporations and fostering a robust startup ecosystem. IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu highlighted the state’s accomplishments, noting the establishment of several Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and record-breaking investments. Notable entrants include FedEx, Marriott, ZF Lifetec, and Arcesium, while Uber and Micron Technology expanded their operations significantly. The state also inked over 20 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with tech giants like NVIDIA, Amazon Web Services, and Meta at the Telangana Global AI Summit in September, cementing its standing as a tech innovation hub.

In a landmark move, US-based logistics giant FedEx invested $100 million to establish an advanced capability centre, aiming to hire 1,000 professionals. German automotive leader ZF Lifetec launched its global R&D centre in Hyderabad, employing 450 engineers, while chipmaker Micron expanded its Hyderabad team to over 4,500 engineers. Hospitality giant Marriott opened its first GCC in Hyderabad, starting with 300 employees. Additionally, Uber grew its largest GCC in the city, focusing on AI and machine learning, while Arcesium launched its first international GCC, hiring 500 professionals for AI and data strategies. These developments underscore Hyderabad’s growing prominence as a global tech powerhouse.

Telangana’s sustainable growth agenda has also gained momentum. The government unveiled a 200-acre AI city project to position Hyderabad as the global AI capital. Initiatives such as Amara Raja Energy’s lithium-ion gigafactory, which began operations in August, reflect the state’s commitment to green energy. This facility alone is projected to generate 5,200 jobs. These efforts align with global sustainability goals, addressing environmental concerns while fostering economic growth.

Beyond corporate investments, the government’s push for skill development, compute infrastructure, and citizen services through partnerships with companies like Microsoft and C-DAC ensures inclusive growth. Hyderabad’s transformation into a technology and innovation hub offers immense potential for job creation, urban development, and sustainable progress, setting a benchmark for Indian states.
