Tata Power, one of India’s foremost integrated power companies, has achieved a significant milestone by securing recognition as a Dual Awarding Body (AB-Dual) under the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
This accreditation empowers Tata Power to assess, certify, and award qualifications to individuals trained through its dedicated skill development arm, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), a premium institution focused on equipping youth with industry-relevant expertise in the expanding energy sector. This pivotal recognition, formalised through an official agreement, is aligned with India’s broader Skill India Mission and underscores Tata Power’s commitment to addressing the skill gaps within the power and renewable energy sectors. The NCVET, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, serves as the national regulator for vocational education, ensuring the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the energy industry. With this accreditation, TPSDI is positioned to scale its training initiatives across the country, offering certification programs in critical areas such as rooftop solar installations, energy storage systems, green hydrogen technologies, and pumped hydro energy. These domains are at the forefront of India’s green energy transformation, playing a vital role in the country’s journey towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
The recognition also facilitates the expansion of TPSDI’s training infrastructure, making its programmes more accessible to a diverse range of learners across India. To date, TPSDI has successfully trained over 300,000 individuals, and with NCVET’s endorsement, it can now directly award industry-recognised certifications for qualifications approved within its network. This move is expected to enhance the employability of certified professionals, providing a robust talent pipeline for India’s burgeoning renewable energy sector. Under the new framework, designated consumers including electricity distribution licensees, open-access consumers, and captive users will benefit from a more structured approach to skilling, with a focus on sustainable energy solutions. The NCVET’s oversight ensures that these programmes meet stringent quality standards, fostering a workforce that is both skilled and adaptable to future technological advancements.
Speaking on this development, a senior official from Tata Power’s sustainability and human resources division highlighted the strategic importance of this recognition. This recognition allows us to directly certify professionals, ensuring they possess the skills needed for India’s clean energy transition.
