Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister Gandhiraj has said adequate stocks have been arranged to ensure uninterrupted distribution of essential ration commodities through fair price shops during the upcoming festival period. He made the statement during visits to Arcot and other parts of Ranipet district on October 23, where he also reviewed monsoon preparedness and completed public works.
The minister said measures had been taken to prevent disruptions in the supply of ration goods during the festival days. The statement did not specify the commodities covered, the quantity of stock held or the duration for which the reserves would be sufficient. Distribution will take place through the state’s ration shop network.
Gandhiraj was in Ranipet district for events connected with northeast monsoon precautionary measures and the inauguration of completed project works. The district administration has intensified preparations across the district to reduce the impact on residents in case of heavy rainfall, according to the minister.
As part of the preparedness plan, facilities have been identified to shelter residents safely if heavy rain causes disruption. Arrangements have also been made to provide food, clothing and medical supplies to people affected by rainfall, the minister said. Field inspections are being carried out in locations vulnerable to waterlogging.
The minister said pumps would be used to remove accumulated rainwater from waterlogging-prone areas. Arrangements have also been made to provide relief to residents affected by the northeast monsoon. The statement did not provide details on the number or location of shelters, the pumping capacity available, or the relief allocation for the district.
The minister also said police teams had been formed to search for minor girls reported missing in the Gingee and Ranipet areas. According to his statement, the teams were conducting an intensive search and the girls would be traced soon. No further details about the cases were provided in the report.
The immediate administrative milestones are the continued field inspections in vulnerable areas, the deployment of pumps where rainwater accumulates and the maintenance of sufficient ration stocks through the festival period. The minister’s remarks place ration distribution and monsoon response within the same district-level preparedness effort, but detailed operational figures were not disclosed.
