Tamil Nadu Electricity Complaints Get 24-Hour WhatsApp Help

Tamil Nadu residents can now report complaints related to electricity supply and other power services through a 24-hour WhatsApp chatbot launched by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. The service is intended to register complaints quickly and forward them to the relevant officials for action within the specified timeframe.

According to a statement issued by the Electricity Board and reported by Dinamalar, consumers must send “Hi” through WhatsApp to 94987 94987 to access the service. The chatbot will then seek details of the complaint through the user’s mobile number or electricity connection number.

Once the complaint information is received, it will be sent immediately to the concerned official, the Board said. The stated objective is to reduce delays in passing service complaints to the responsible authority and support timely resolution.

The facility covers complaints connected with electricity services, including power distribution-related issues. The Board said it has been taking various measures to provide uninterrupted and stable electricity supply while also creating easier channels for the public to register complaints.

The WhatsApp chatbot is the next step in those efforts, according to the statement. Its round-the-clock availability gives consumers a single digital channel through which they can initiate a complaint without having to depend on in-person reporting. The supplied announcement does not specify the full list of complaint categories supported by the chatbot or the service-level timelines applicable to each type of complaint.

The system is designed to use the consumer’s mobile number or electricity connection number to collect complaint details. The Electricity Board said the information would be routed to the appropriate officer, who would take steps to address the issue. The announcement does not provide details on how users can track a complaint after registration, the escalation process if a complaint remains unresolved, or whether the service is available in languages other than the interface options provided through WhatsApp.

The new channel places complaint registration within a widely used messaging platform, but the effectiveness of the system will depend on whether complaints are accurately classified, assigned to the correct officials and closed within the promised timeframe. For consumers, the immediate action required is to save 94987 94987 and send “Hi” on WhatsApp when reporting an electricity-service complaint. The Electricity Board’s statement does not announce a separate deadline or phased rollout for the facility.
