In a significant move to support the growing industrial landscape of Sriperumbudur, the town is set to undergo a comprehensive infrastructural makeover with the introduction of piped water supply and an underground sewerage network by July 2024. The ambitious project, costing 119.3 crore, aims to address the burgeoning needs of the burgeoning industrial and residential sectors.
Metrowater, the agency spearheading the initiative, is in the final stages of testing the underground network and is slated to commission it by the coming month. The project entails the installation of a sophisticated water supply system, with approximately 42 lakh litres per day to be pumped from the Chembarambakkam water treatment plant through a network spanning 65.4km. This network will cater to 3,706 households across various sectors, bolstered by multiple water tanks strategically positioned along the route.
Furthermore, the sewerage infrastructure development is nearing completion, encompassing 64.4km of underground pipelines connecting 4,000 households. These pipelines will feed into six pumping stations, ultimately directing sewage flow to an advanced treatment plant. With 1,954 manholes integrated for regular maintenance and desilting, the system is designed to efficiently manage the town’s waste disposal needs.
The impending completion of these projects marks a significant milestone in Sriperumbudur’s journey towards modernization and sustainable development. Residents and industry stakeholders alike eagerly await the benefits of improved access to essential utilities, which are poised to alleviate existing challenges and foster further growth in the region’s industrial ecosystem.
As Sriperumbudur braces itself for continued expansion, Metrowater has meticulously planned the infrastructure to accommodate future population growth and industrial demand. With projections indicating a surge in sewage generation and population figures, the town is poised to meet the evolving needs of its residents and businesses well into the foreseeable future.
