Special Traffic Blocks Announced for Carnac ROB Project

The Mumbai Division of Central Railway has announced five special traffic and power blocks for the reconstruction of the Carnac Road Overbridge (ROB), a critical infrastructure project between CSMT and Masjid stations. These blocks are scheduled from 25th January to 3rd February 2025 and will facilitate the launching of open web girders for the ROB’s Span-2, ensuring enhanced structural safety.

Detailed Schedule of Blocks:
Block 1: Midnight of 25th/26th January (23:30 to 05:30, 6 hours)
Block 2: Midnight of 26th/27th January (00:30 to 03:30, 3 hours)
Block 3: Midnight of 31st January/1st February (01:30 to 03:30, 2 hours)
Block 4: Midnight of 1st/2nd February (01:30 to 03:30, 2 hours)
Block 5: Midnight of 2nd/3rd February (01:30 to 03:30, 2 hours)
The blocks will affect the UP and DOWN slow, fast, and harbour lines between Byculla, Vadala Road, and CSMT stations, excluding the stations themselves.

Impact on Suburban and Long-Distance Train Services:
During the block periods, suburban services will be unavailable between Byculla and CSMT on the Main Line, and between Vadala Road and CSMT on the Harbour Line. Short-terminations and revised schedules will be in effect:

Main Line: Services will terminate or originate at Thane, Kurla, Parel, and Byculla.
Harbour Line: Services will terminate or originate at Vadala Road.
The railway administration has also revised timings for the last and first suburban locals, with details available for passenger convenience. Additionally, select mail/express trains will either be short-terminated or originate from Dadar, with some departures delayed by 20–40 minutes.

Affected Long-Distance Trains:
Prominent services, such as Howrah-CSMT Express (12870) and Madgaon-CSMT Tejas Express (22120), will be short-terminated, while departures of trains like CSMT-Madgaon Vande Bharat (22229) will be delayed.

Infrastructure Development Priorities
The Carnac ROB reconstruction is part of a larger initiative to modernise Mumbai’s transport infrastructure. Despite temporary inconveniences, this project promises to enhance safety and reliability for commuters. Central Railway has urged passengers to bear with the administration during this critical period.
