Solapur government hospitals have been directed to provide quality treatment to every patient and make full use of state-supplied medical equipment, medicines and other facilities, Maharashtra Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Prakash Abitkar said at a departmental review meeting in Solapur on November 6. He also ordered officials to take action against fake doctors in the district within eight days.
The minister instructed doctors and healthcare staff not to neglect their duties and warned that negligence would not be excused. The directions were issued during a review of the functioning of sub-district hospitals, primary health centres and health sub-centres across the district.
Abitkar said government hospitals must build public confidence by ensuring adequate facilities and quality treatment. He asked the municipal corporation, Zilla Parishad and health department to work together so that poor residents can access free healthcare services.
The minister also reviewed the implementation of the ‘My Village, Healthy Village’ campaign. He said village health committees, elected representatives and the health department would need to coordinate for the programme to succeed. The meeting examined the performance of healthcare facilities and the delivery of services to residents.
During visits to the district general hospital and the women’s hospital, Abitkar inspected the newly established catheterisation laboratory, intensive care unit and other departments. He also spoke to patients to gather information about treatment, medicines and the facilities available at the hospitals.
The minister interacted with beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana schemes during the hospital visits. The schemes are intended to support access to healthcare for eligible residents, making the functioning of public hospitals and coordination between local bodies and health authorities important to their delivery.
The eight-day instruction on fake doctors places a specific enforcement deadline before district officials. The supplied report does not provide details about the number of suspected practitioners, the proposed enforcement process or any action already taken. Further developments will depend on the response of district authorities and the outcome of inspections and administrative reviews.
