Sohna Power Outage Leaves 40 Villages Without Electricity

A Sohna power outage has left 40 villages without electricity and affected about 40% of the urban area after protests and a strike by electricity department workers, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR. The disruption has also hit water access, household power backup systems and essential electrical equipment across the affected areas.

The report said electricity supply deteriorated sharply over a 12-hour period in both the rural and urban parts of Sohna. Several electricity feeders stopped functioning, leaving 40 villages in blackout conditions while a significant portion of the urban area remained without power.

The situation worsened during the night when six important feeders serving the urban area and three feeders serving rural areas reportedly stopped supplying electricity. The outages left residents in darkness and forced households to cope with heat and humidity through the night.

Residents affected by the power cuts reached the 66 KVA power house in Sohna late on Thursday night, the report said. They found only the sub-divisional officer and some police personnel present at the premises. No other electricity department employee or technical staff member was available at the time, according to the report, adding to residents’ anger and leaving them without an immediate resolution to the disruption.

The impact has extended beyond lighting and household appliances because electricity is required for local water access. In rural areas, residents’ stored water in household tanks had reportedly run out after prolonged power cuts prevented regular supply. The report said that inverters, which had provided backup power to homes, were also being drained by the long outages and repeated load, reducing the ability of households to operate essential equipment.

The disruption illustrates how a prolonged electricity failure can quickly become a wider civic services problem in areas where water storage, pumping and household backup depend on a functioning power network. For residents, the outage has affected both rural and urban settlements, with the immediate difficulties including darkness, heat, depleted inverters, unavailable water and non-functional electrical appliances.

The report attributed the disruption to the ongoing protest and strike by electricity department workers. It did not provide details of the workers’ demands, the duration of the strike, the number of personnel involved or a restoration schedule. It also did not report an official timeline from the electricity department for restoring supply to the affected feeders.

The next operational milestone for residents is the restoration of the failed urban and rural feeders and the return of electricity-dependent water services in the affected parts of Sohna.
