Shahberi Double-Decker Road Plan Advances With ₹1,200-Crore Build

The Shahberi double-decker road project in Greater Noida has moved closer to implementation after the Greater Noida Authority wrote to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), seeking progress on the proposed elevated corridor designed to ease congestion between Greater Noida West, Ghaziabad and the National Highway-9 corridor.

The project is planned as the first double-decker elevated road in Uttar Pradesh, according to the report by Navbharat Times – Noida. The Greater Noida Authority, Noida Authority, Ghaziabad Development Authority and NHAI have jointly prepared the plan. The three development authorities are expected to share the construction cost, while NHAI is expected to take forward work related to the project.

Greater Noida Authority CEO Ravi Kumar NG said the elevated road would begin at Ek Murti Roundabout and continue up to the Shahberi drain as a two-level structure. Beyond the drain, the plan proposes a single-level elevated road. The authority has estimated the cost of the Shahberi elevated road project at approximately ₹1,200 crore.

The proposed corridor is part of a wider road plan for Greater Noida West. A 130-metre-wide road is planned through Shahberi and Crossings Republik towards NH-9, with the reported route covering approximately 2.5 kilometres. Another road is proposed along the Shahberi drain, connecting with a 60-metre-wide road near Tigri.

Under the traffic arrangement described in the plan, one elevated level would carry vehicles travelling from Greater Noida towards Ghaziabad, while the other would serve traffic moving from Ghaziabad towards Greater Noida. The existing road would remain available for local movement. The elevated structure is expected to be between 9 and 10 metres wide, according to the report.

The proposal follows an earlier plan for a four-lane elevated road at Shahberi. Officials from the Greater Noida Authority and NHAI had discussed that proposal in the previous month and sought the assistance of a consultant. The earlier four-lane option was estimated to cost around ₹400 crore. The authorities subsequently moved towards the more extensive double-decker arrangement, which has raised the estimated project cost to approximately ₹1,200 crore.

The Shahberi and Greater Noida West areas have experienced increasing pressure on their road network as residential development and daily traffic connect them with Ghaziabad and NH-9. The proposed separation of traffic flows across two elevated levels is intended to create additional capacity while keeping the existing surface road open. The report does not provide a final construction schedule, tender date or completion deadline. The immediate next step is expected to be further work by NHAI on the detailed project report and related preparations.
