In a bid to facilitate improved connectivity between Paradise and Shamirpet, the proposed elevated skyway project has encountered a significant hurdle as it is poised to impact over 100 private properties in Shamirpet, situated within the Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

The affected properties, spanning across three villages – Hakimpet, Pothaipally, and Thumukunta – under the Thumkunta Municipality, face the imminent threat of land acquisition to make way for the skyway’s construction. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), entrusted with the implementation of the twin elevated skyways under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), has directed the Thumkunta municipal commissioner to initiate land acquisition proceedings to expedite the project’s execution. The state government’s ardent pursuit of the skyway’s completion underscores its strategic importance in enhancing regional transportation infrastructure.
However, amidst the push for progress, concerns have emerged from property owners in Vasavi Nagar colony, who fear the adverse repercussions of the skyway project’s expansion on their properties. These residents have appealed to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) to safeguard their properties from potential acquisition or damage during the widening of the project’s stretch. As per the blueprint outlined by the SRDP, the acquisition of private lands along the state highway is inevitable, encompassing both residential and commercial establishments along its route.
In response to these apprehensions, property owners have urged SCB officials to reconsider the project’s design and limit the road width to 100 feet instead of the proposed 200 feet. They argue that a narrower road width along the Rajiv Rahadari, spanning from the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to the Trimulgerry crossroads, would suffice for the project’s objectives while mitigating the adverse impact on existing properties. The burgeoning dispute surrounding the land acquisition for the Shamirpet skyway project underscores the complex interplay between infrastructure development and property rights. As stakeholders navigate this contentious terrain, fostering dialogue and seeking equitable solutions will be imperative to strike a balance between progress and community interests.
