Secunderabad Elevated Corridor Faces Compensation Demand From Cantonment Body

The All India Cantonment Boards Association has asked the Telangana government to ensure legally admissible compensation for property owners who may be affected by the proposed elevated corridor on National Highway-44 through Secunderabad Cantonment.

Association vice-president Jampana Pratap submitted a representation to Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar during the minister’s visit to Secunderabad Cantonment on Friday. The visit was arranged by Cantonment MLA G Sri Ganesh to raise voter awareness about the Graduate MLC elections.

The proposed corridor is planned along the NH-44 stretch from Paradise Circle to Dairy Farm, Suchitra. The report did not specify the number of properties, residents or businesses likely to be affected, nor did it provide a compensation package or acquisition schedule for the project.

Pratap said the affected people included ordinary residents, householders and small shopkeepers who had been associated with the locality for several decades. He urged the state government to provide benefits that are legally admissible and to protect the affected persons from avoidable hardship.

The demand places compensation and rehabilitation at the centre of the corridor’s local impact. While the project is intended to pass through an important north-south road connection, the representation indicates that its implementation could involve consequences for privately occupied properties, neighbourhood businesses and public-use buildings within the cantonment area.

Pratap also sought a state sanction of Rs 1 crore or the construction of three equivalent replacement buildings at government cost. The demand relates to the loss of Cantonment Playground buildings at New Bowenpally that he said would be affected by the corridor project.

The association further sought compensation from the state government for the loss of those buildings. The representation does not establish whether the replacement buildings have been approved, whether land has been identified for them or which department would be responsible for implementing the request.

The NH-44 corridor proposal therefore involves both transport infrastructure and property-related decisions within Secunderabad Cantonment. Any compensation process will need to address the interests of private property owners, small commercial establishments and cantonment facilities identified in the representation.

The report did not include a response from the minister or details of any government decision on the demands. The next step reported is consideration of the representation submitted to the Hyderabad in-charge minister.
