Samruddhi Highway Faces Three Daily Mumbai-Bound Closures

Mumbai-bound traffic on the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg will be stopped for three one-hour periods every day from October 26 to November 6 as authorities carry out work to prevent rocks and debris from falling onto the highway.

The restrictions will affect the stretch between Bharveer Interchange and Igatpuri Interchange, a hilly section of the expressway where crews will install protective netting near a tunnel entrance and along vulnerable mountain slopes. The work is intended to reduce the risk of loose rocks and debris reaching the carriageway and endangering motorists.

According to the schedule approved by the Highway Police, vehicles travelling towards Mumbai will be stopped from 10 am to 11 am, 1 pm to 2 pm and 4 pm to 5 pm each day during the scheduled period. The closures will remain in force from October 26 through November 6.

The traffic blocks will provide working windows for teams carrying out slope protection measures. Protective netting is being installed to contain loose material on exposed slopes and improve safety for vehicles passing through the mountainous stretch between the two interchanges.

The affected section is part of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, a major road connection between Mumbai and regions in eastern Maharashtra. Temporary restrictions on the Mumbai-bound carriageway are likely to affect motorists whose journeys overlap with any of the three daily closure periods, although the supplied report does not provide an estimate of expected queues or additional travel time.

Motorists using the route during the work period have been advised to plan their journeys around the scheduled closures and allow extra time for travel. Travellers heading towards Mumbai have also been advised to check traffic advisories before starting their journeys.

The closures are scheduled to continue until November 6, when the stated traffic restrictions for the protective-netting and slope-safety work are due to end.
