RPP Infra Gets ₹81 Crore Water Supply Project
RPP Infra Projects Ltd, a prominent player in infrastructure development, has been awarded a significant contract worth ₹81 crore by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB). This project, under the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam initiative, is aimed at transforming Chennai’s water supply system, addressing long-standing infrastructure issues, and strengthening the city’s resilience to water demands.
The contract covers a broad scope of work, which includes constructing underground water tanks, setting up water distribution stations, and laying feeder mains in key areas. It will also involve replacing outdated PVC water mains and renewing the existing water infrastructure in multiple depots located in areas IV and V of the city. The ultimate goal is to provide a more reliable and sustainable water supply to residents, improving overall water distribution and efficiency in the metropolis. One notable aspect of the contract is its commitment to improving stormwater drainage systems in the Kovalam Basin, part of a larger initiative under the KfW funding. This addition focuses on enhancing drainage infrastructure in Zone 15 of the Greater Chennai Corporation, a vital part of the city that often faces flooding and waterlogging issues. By combining these initiatives, the project not only seeks to improve water supply but also integrates climate-resilient infrastructure, addressing both water scarcity and flood risks.
The total contract value, including GST, stands at ₹80.98 crore. RPP Infra is expected to complete the project within 12 months, underscoring the urgency of upgrading Chennai’s infrastructure to meet the growing demands of its expanding population.
RPP Infra’s shares saw a noticeable uptick, closing at ₹131, up by ₹6.20, or 4.97%, on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This rise reflects investor confidence in the company’s ability to execute large-scale projects and its role in addressing the infrastructure challenges faced by Chennai. The Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam initiative is crucial for the city’s long-term sustainability, aligning with broader efforts to build eco-friendly, resilient urban environments. The successful completion of this project will not only enhance water supply but also contribute to the city’s broader goals of water conservation and management. By upgrading vital infrastructure, RPP Infra is helping Chennai move towards a more sustainable and efficient future.
As Chennai continues to grow and evolve, projects like these play a pivotal role in ensuring that the city’s infrastructure keeps pace with its development needs. With climate change making water management an even greater priority, this initiative will help the city better prepare for future challenges, ensuring that its citizens have access to the vital resources they need.
