The DDA sports complex in Sector 33, Rohini, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, opening a new multi-sport facility for residents of Rohini, Outer Delhi and adjoining areas of North West Delhi. The complex will initially operate on a Pay & Play basis, with memberships to be opened subsequently.
Spread across approximately 8.11 hectares, the facility has a built-up area of around 10,974 square metres. Its outdoor infrastructure includes six synthetic lawn tennis courts, two synthetic basketball courts, netball and volleyball courts, a skating rink, a natural turf cricket ground, two cricket practice nets with clay pitches, a football-cum-hockey ground and a jogging track.
The indoor section includes facilities for table tennis, yoga, aerobics and a gymnasium. It also has multipurpose halls, a conference hall, a reception and waiting hall, and a first-aid room. A pro shop, approximately 1.3 kilometres of internal peripheral road and parking for 155 equivalent car spaces have also been provided within the complex.
The inauguration also included the laying of the foundation stone for an electric vehicle charging station at the site. The facility is planned to serve a wider catchment beyond Rohini, with the DDA positioning it as a sports and recreation destination for communities across Outer Delhi and neighbouring parts of North West Delhi.
Sandhu also announced the Lieutenant Governor’s Cup for Hockey, scheduled to be held from October 9 to 18. The tournament is intended to encourage young athletes and increase participation in team sports, particularly hockey. The announcement links the new facility to organised sporting activity as well as everyday recreational use by local residents.
Additional facilities are planned in later phases. These include a gym and fitness centre and a rehabilitation centre on the first floor, a swimming pool in Phase II and dedicated badminton facilities. The source report did not specify the construction timelines or expected completion dates for these additions.
After the inauguration, Sandhu visited the DDA Aarambh Library in Rohini and interacted with students. In response to demand for the library, he announced that an upper floor would be used to create more than 40 additional seats. The DDA currently operates five Aarambh Libraries, located in Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini Village, Dwarka, Rohini and Vikaspuri.
