Ramlila Maidan Rally Readies 45,000 Seats as Delhi Braces for Crowds

Preparations for the INDIA bloc’s ‘Save the Vote, Save the Country’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan were nearing completion late on October 31, with two large stages, seating for up to 45,000 people and barricades installed ahead of the November 1 gathering.

The rally is scheduled to run from 10am to 5pm, although the main programme is expected to take place between noon and 4pm. According to Delhi Congress president Devendra Yadav, senior opposition leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are expected to arrive together between 12.30pm and 1pm before addressing the gathering.

The arrangements at the central Delhi venue include two tricolour-themed stage-and-pandal structures. The main stage has been prepared for senior opposition leaders, while a separate stage has been set up for the Delhi and state units of the alliance’s constituent parties. Additional tented areas with white umbrellas have also been installed around the ground.

The scale of the preparations places crowd movement and access management at the centre of the event’s operational requirements. Barricading has been installed to regulate the gathering, while party workers have been arranging buses to bring attendees to Ramlila Maidan from Delhi and other states. The party has claimed that several lakh people could attend, although the report does not provide an independently verified attendance estimate.

Workers were still transporting chairs and other materials in mini-trucks late on October 31. Drainage work was also continuing at night to remove accumulated rainwater from the venue. These preparations highlight the practical demands of hosting a large public event at a major open ground, where seating, entry control, weather conditions and movement of vehicles have to be managed together.

Yadav said observers appointed by the All India Congress Committee and district in-charges of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee held meetings across different districts on October 31. The meetings were intended to mobilise booth-level workers for the rally and coordinate their arrival at the venue.

The event will also require coordination beyond the ground itself because the expected attendance includes participants from Delhi and other states. The report does not provide details of any traffic diversions, public transport advisories, emergency arrangements or police deployment. It does, however, state that barricades were being installed for crowd control.

Ramlila Maidan has long functioned as a major venue for political gatherings and public events in the capital, making the management of its surrounding roads and access points an important part of the event’s logistics. For residents and commuters, the immediate effects are likely to depend on the final crowd size, bus movement and any operational instructions issued by civic or law-enforcement authorities.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 10am on November 1, with the principal addresses expected between 12pm and 4pm. The supplied report does not state whether the venue preparations were formally inspected or whether additional public advisories were issued before the event.
