Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation has deferred any immediate reintroduction of water rationing after a sharp rise in storage across the Khadakwasla dam system, allowing the Pune water supply to continue on a regular schedule. The city had earlier imposed alternate-day water distribution from mid-June after delayed monsoon rainfall reduced reservoir reserves to critical levels. Water conservation measures were subsequently suspended during the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage to ensure uninterrupted supply for residents and the large influx of pilgrims visiting the city. Following sustained rainfall over recent days, reservoir levels supplying Pune have increased significantly, substantially improving the city’s immediate water position. Civic officials have confirmed that daily distribution will continue until a comprehensive review of water availability and seasonal forecasts is completed. The future of the Pune water supply schedule will now be determined after a meeting involving civic administrators, elected representatives and water resource officials.
