Pune voters in the Legislative Council graduate and teacher constituencies can cast their ballots by showing any one of 10 approved identity documents if they do not have their voter photo identity card, Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sheetal Teli-Ugle said. Polling for both constituencies will be held on Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.
The Election Commission has accepted the voter photo identity card as the primary identification document. However, voters who cannot produce it may present any one of the approved alternatives at their polling station, according to the information issued by the election authorities.
The accepted documents include an Aadhaar card, driving licence, PAN card and passport. Service identity cards issued to employees by the Central or state government, public sector undertakings, local bodies or private industrial organisations will also be accepted.
Official identity cards issued to Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly or Members of the Legislative Council are included in the list. Teachers and graduates may also use service identity cards issued by the educational institutions where they work, provided the institution falls within the relevant teacher or graduate constituency.
The remaining accepted documents are an original degree or diploma certificate issued by a university, an original disability certificate issued by a competent authority, and the Unique Disability Identity card issued by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The arrangements apply specifically to voters enrolled in the graduate and teacher constituencies covered by the election. The election authorities have asked voters to carry their voter identity card or one of the approved alternative documents and exercise their franchise as a priority.
