Pune traffic diversions have been announced around Market Yard as construction continues on the underground metro line between Swargate and Katraj, with several turning movements restricted near Pushpamangal Chowk and Utsav Hotel Chowk, the Pune traffic police said on Wednesday.
Vehicles travelling from Upper Bibwewadi through Chandralok Chowk towards Pushpamangal Chowk will not be allowed to turn right towards Swargate, Market Yard and Utsav Hotel. Motorists on this route have been instructed to turn left and take a U-turn near the Aranyeshwar bus stop using the stretch opposite the Tanishq showroom before proceeding towards Swargate.
The restrictions also affect traffic moving between Swargate, Market Yard, Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi. Vehicles travelling from Swargate via Pune-Satara Road, as well as those moving from Market Yard towards Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi, will be diverted through Pushpamangal Chowk. The alternative route uses the stretches near Wellness Medical Store and Bhapkar petrol pump before continuing towards Katraj and Upper Bibwewadi.
Vehicles approaching Pushpamangal Chowk will not be permitted to turn right towards Market Yard and Utsav Hotel Chowk. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Market Yard towards Swargate will not be allowed to turn right at Utsav Hotel Chowk.
The traffic police have advised motorists coming from Market Yard to use Vakharia Corporation Chowk to reach their destinations. Commuters may also take a U-turn at Pushpamangal Chowk near the Tanishq showroom and Aranyeshwar bus stop. Vakharia Corporation Chowk has been identified as an additional route for motorists seeking to avoid the restricted turns.
The diversions have been introduced while work continues on the underground Swargate-Katraj metro connection. The affected roads form part of a network linking central Pune with southern neighbourhoods, including Bibwewadi and Katraj, making the turning restrictions relevant to both local traffic and vehicles using Pune-Satara Road.
For commuters, the changes mean that familiar right turns around Market Yard and Utsav Hotel Chowk will no longer be available on the specified approaches. Motorists will need to follow the indicated U-turns or use Vakharia Corporation Chowk, depending on their direction of travel.
The Pune traffic police’s announcement sets out the alternate movements for traffic approaching the affected junctions as metro construction proceeds. Commuters have been advised to follow the revised routes while travelling through the Market Yard area.
