Pune Railway Division clarifies CCTV safety fund allocation

The Pune Railway Division has issued a statement to address recent misreports regarding the allocation and usage of a ₹100 crore fund intended for enhancing passenger safety through CCTV surveillance.

The division clarified that this fund, approved by the Railway Board in 2023 under the Nirbhaya Scheme, pertains to the entire Central Railway zone and is being implemented by RailTel Corporation. Notably, Pune and Miraj stations are not covered under this specific funding. The division emphasized that the ₹100 crore allocation is part of a broader initiative to expand CCTV surveillance across the Central Railway zone, aiming to bolster passenger safety and security. However, Pune and Miraj stations are not included in this particular funding, as per the division’s statement.

In response to concerns about the adequacy of CCTV coverage at Pune Railway Station, the division highlighted that the station is currently equipped with 75 CCTV cameras, all of which are fully operational and actively monitored by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Control Room. These cameras are strategically positioned to ensure comprehensive surveillance of key areas within the station premises. Furthermore, the division announced an ongoing upgrade initiative to enhance the existing CCTV infrastructure at Pune Railway Station. Under this initiative, the current 75 cameras will be replaced with 160 state-of-the-art STQC-certified (Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification) CCTV cameras. The installation work is currently in progress and is expected to be completed soon, further strengthening the station’s security measures.

The Pune Railway Division urged media organizations to verify facts with the official Public Relations Department before publishing information related to railway operations. The division emphasized that spreading unverified or erroneous details can misinform the public and detract from the diligent efforts Indian Railways continues to make in enhancing infrastructure, security, and passenger experience.

This clarification underscores the division’s commitment to transparency, passenger safety, and public trust. The division remains dedicated to implementing advanced security measures and infrastructure upgrades to ensure a safe and secure environment for all passengers and staff at Pune Railway Station.
