Pune Prepares for Army Day Parade Traffic Diversions
As Pune gears up for the highly anticipated Army Day parade, temporary traffic diversions have been implemented across key areas, including Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, and Khadki. The changes, which are set to affect daily commuters, will remain in effect from 7 am to 11 am each day, starting from Saturday, January 11th, until Wednesday, January 15th. With an increased number of visitors and military personnel expected to participate in the event, these diversions aim to streamline traffic flow and ensure that the parade is conducted smoothly without disrupting the city’s daily operations.
The temporary diversions have been announced in response to the unique requirements of the Army Day parade, a prestigious event that necessitates certain roads to be closed for security and operational reasons. Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Amol Zende, has urged the public to plan their routes in advance and consider using alternative routes to avoid significant disruptions during peak hours. For those unfamiliar with the proposed diversions, a number of important roads will be closed to regular traffic, forcing commuters to adjust their routes accordingly.
For instance, traffic heading from Shadalbaba Chowk to Kharadi via Chandrama Chowk will be blocked, with an alternate route suggested through Ambedkar Chowk, Alandi Junction, and the Sapras Juna Holkar Bridge. Additionally, the road from Vishrantwadi to Khadki via Holkar Bridge will also be closed, with the advised diversion passing through Vishrantwadi, Sapras Old Holkar Bridge, Shadalbaba, Sangamwadi, and Patil Estate. Further diversions will affect roads like Bopodi Chowk, Church Chowk, and General Cariappa Road, which will be rerouted through Wakdewadi and Patil Estate. Access to Aathmula Road from Poultry Farm Chowk will also be restricted, with the alternative route via Wakdewadi, Patil Estate-Sangamwadi, and Shadalbaba Road.
Although the diversions are expected to cause temporary inconvenience, they are deemed necessary for the successful execution of the parade. Motorists are urged to follow the designated alternate routes to ensure smoother traffic flow during this period. For those who are not regular commuters on these routes, the temporary closures could lead to confusion or delays, which is why it is critical for the authorities to provide clear signage and guidance throughout the diversion period. Traffic management during such events plays an important role in maintaining order and public safety.
