Pune Metro Skywalk Opens, Fixing Civil Court Interchange Confusion

A new Pune Metro skywalk linking MahaMetro’s Civil Court station with the Shivajinagar (District Court) station on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 has opened to passengers, creating a direct pedestrian connection between the two stations.

The facility is intended to make interchange easier for passengers arriving on MahaMetro’s Line 1 and Line 2 and travelling towards Hinjewadi on Line 3. Commuters can now move between the two Civil Court station facilities through the skywalk instead of exiting to the road or walking around the stations from outside.

The connection is particularly relevant for passengers travelling from the Swargate, Katraj and Pimpri-Chinchwad sides of the network. They can alight at MahaMetro’s Civil Court station and use the pedestrian link to reach the District Court station on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar corridor.

The opening addresses confusion among passengers about how to change from MahaMetro’s existing lines to Pune Metro Line 3. The two stations use related Civil Court and District Court naming, while serving the interchange between the existing MahaMetro network and the Hinjewadi corridor. The direct physical link is expected to make the transfer route easier to identify and follow.

A recent inspection by Pudhari found that the dedicated skywalk had been opened for passenger use. The report said the facility was helping industrial-area employees and information technology workers travelling towards Hinjewadi. It also observed that passengers no longer needed to descend to the road or take an external route to reach the second station.

The skywalk changes the interchange from an outdoor street-level transfer into a connected pedestrian movement between the two stations. For passengers, the immediate operational benefit is a shorter and more clearly defined transfer process, although the supplied report does not provide the skywalk’s length, construction cost, capacity or operating hours.

The connection also clarifies how the two metro systems are intended to work together at Civil Court. MahaMetro’s Line 1 and Line 2 passengers can use the interchange to access the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Line 3, while passengers travelling in the opposite direction can use the same pedestrian link to transfer to the existing network.

The skywalk is now open for passenger use, with its stated purpose being to simplify interchanging between MahaMetro’s Civil Court station and Pune Metro Line 3’s Shivajinagar (District Court) station.
