In a renewed effort to address traffic concerns and resume crucial infrastructure development, Pune Metro has recommenced work on the entry-exit point of Yerwada metro station after a hiatus lasting almost four months. The resumption of work comes on the heels of persistent complaints from residents, who highlighted that the initial staircase design impeded the main road’s width, leading to traffic bottlenecks. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) echoed these concerns, prompting a temporary halt to the project in November.
While Pune Metro has successfully completed work on entry and exit points along Line 1 from Vanaz to Ramwadi, the Yerwada metro station remains a focal point for ongoing construction. The ongoing redesign of the entry-exit point, situated approximately 300 metres ahead of Parnakuti police chowki on Ahmednagar Road, seeks to mitigate the impact on traffic flow. Pune Metro officials, in collaboration with PMC, have engaged in multiple consultations and presented updated plans for the entry-exit point to address concerns raised in November. Following discussions with local residents and PMC road department officials, a revised plan has been finalised. The repositioning of entry and exit point pillars to alleviate traffic obstruction is underway, with completion expected in over a month. Yerawada, located on the Pune-Ahmednagar National Highway, witnesses consistent heavy traffic. Recognising the need for comprehensive planning, Pune Metro and PMC are jointly implementing a strategy that involves installing pedestrian stairs, escalators, and lifts on both sides of the metro station.
In parallel developments, the Pune Metro has achieved significant milestones with the completion of the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch. However, the initiation of the stretch awaits the conclusion of the election code of conduct. Currently operating from Vanaz to Ruby Hall, the 5.5-kilometre Ruby Hall to Ramwadi section is poised for passenger traffic. Additionally, plans for a feeder bus service, in collaboration with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), are in motion to enhance connectivity between Yerawada metro station and Pune Airport, located approximately 4.8 km away.
